Prayer For Winona

Heavenly Father,
we come before You as a community gathered not only to conduct business,
but to seek the common good under Your sovereign care.

You are the source of all authority and the judge of every heart.
You have entrusted leadership to those elected to serve in this chamber,
and You have given voice and concern to those who come to be heard.
Grant that both authority and voice may be exercised with humility, wisdom, and restraint.

Lord, quiet every anxious spirit and steady every restless heart.
Where there is frustration, bring patience.
Where there is suspicion, bring understanding.
Where there is anger, bring a spirit that is slow to speak and quick to listen.
Guard this room from words that wound more than they heal.
Keep us from assuming the worst in one another.
Deliver us from division that hardens hearts and blinds us to our shared purpose.
Instead, give us clarity of thought, fairness in judgment,
and a genuine desire to seek what is right and good for all people in our community.

Remind us, O God, that every person here bears Your image
and is worthy of dignity, even in disagreement.
Help us to speak truthfully, to listen carefully,
and to act justly without losing charity.

For those entrusted with leadership, grant calm resolve and measured response.
For those who come to speak, grant clarity, respect, and self-control.
For all of us, grant the wisdom to pursue peace without surrendering what is right.
Let this and every meeting be marked not by conflict, but by order;
not by accusation, but by understanding;
not by division, but by a shared commitment to the good of Winona, the city we love.

We ask all of this in Your holy name.
